Hong Kong - Asia Consciousness Festival 2009 Synthetic Surrogate June 10, 2009

Sundaram Tagore Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of the sculptor and performance artist Barry Freedland in conjunction with the Asia Consciousness Festival. Playful and witty, Freedland's work pushes the boundaries of human consciousness. He is fascinated by the myth of the artist-genius alone in his studio creating wonders. In a technology-based performance, Freedland puts himself on display and poses as 'the artist.' As he stands hidden behind a curtain, a series of robots begin moving and creating drawings on the gallery floor. Who then is the creator in this scenario? Is it Freedland? Or the robot-workers?
