Christopher Rauschenberg  Thailand  June 6 - 24, 2005

(New York City – June 1, 2005) Sundaram Tagore Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of photography by Christopher Rauschenberg. The Portland, Oregon-based artist will show a selection of color photographs taken recently in Thailand. The exhibition opens on July 6 and closes July 24.

Rauschenberg is noted for his technique of shooting the images sequentially, then mounting them in a disjunctive line. This collage-like process, along with his single-frame images, captures the unexpected beauty and realities of places both familiar and unfamiliar.

Born in New York in 1951, Rauschenberg has practiced photographic art since 1957. He received a B.A. in photography from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, and has had 71 solo exhibitions in Argentina, Germany, Italy, Sweden, the United States and Yugoslavia. From 1999 to 2003, he was a co-founder and president of Photo Americas, a major photography festival in Portland, Oregon. In addition, he is a co-founder and co-director of Blue Sky Gallery, an internationally renowned non-profit photography gallery. He is the son of two of this country's most esteemed contemporary artists, Robert Rauschenberg and Susan Weil. Ms. Weil is also represented by Sundaram Tagore Gallery; an exhibition of her work will be on view at the gallery in early 2006.

Sundaram Tagore Gallery is located at 137 Greene Street (between Prince and Houston) in SoHo, New York City. It is open daily from 11 am to 7 pm. For additional press information, or to request images, contact Yng-Ru Chen, Publicity Manager at 212.677.4520 or yng@sundaramtagore.com.

About Sundaram Tagore Gallery
Established in 2000, Sundaram Tagore Gallery is devoted to examining the confluence of Western and non-Western cultures. The focus is on developing exhibitions of intellectual rigor and showcasing artists who are engaged in spiritual, social and aesthetic dialogues with traditions other than their own.

Our interest in cross-cultural dialogue extends beyond the visual arts into many other disciplines, including poetry, literature, performance art, film and music. We host non-profit events that stimulate the exchange of ideas and push the envelope of artistic, intellectual and cultural boundaries. Our focus is to help artists of all ages, and art organizations from around the globe to exhibit, perform and produce their work.
