Sundaram Tagore Gallery, 547 W 27th Street, New York

Press Release

Please join Sundaram for a midsummer’s night celebration of award-winning film producer Suresh Jindal’s new book My Adventures with Satyajit Ray, The Making of Shatranj Ke Khilari. Jindal tells the story of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray and Shatranj Ke Khilari, the Bengali auteur’s most lavish and expensive film—and his only film in Hindi/Urdu.

Jindal, a producer of hits such as Basu Chatterji’s Rajnigandha, Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi and Mani Kaul’s Naukar Ki Kameej, was a rookie producer on Shatranj Ke Khilari and quotes extensively from unpublished letters Ray sent him, illustrating the passion, dedication and detail the acclaimed director brought to the film.

Our summer exhibition will be on view, showcasing work by gallery artists, including Hiroshi Senju, Ricardo Mazal and Judith Murray, alongside paintings from iconic Indian artists S. H. Raza and F. N. Souza.

Refreshments will be served, so come for the book signing and stay for the art!
