簡介

Susan Weil著迷於肉眼所看見與確知的關係，以及時間、物體移動，和語言的表達。她經常折斷平面圖像，然後再解構及重組，靈巧地結合不同的材料及創作方法，如拼貼、藍圖印刷、循環再用的油畫布、壓克力顏料及木材等，創作出立體的混合媒介作品。

 

Weil於戰後時期的紐約正式展開其藝術家生涯，當時正值折衷的文化影響和跨學科實驗活躍時期，她於著名的黑山學院跟隨Josef Albers習畫，其間先後與著名的藝術家Willem與 Elaine de Kooning 、Jasper Johns、Robert Rauschenbery及Cy Twombly共事。Weil喜愛將嚴肅與俏皮的元素同時注入創作中，有別於同期的藝術家，她從不怯於以圖案比喻及聯繫現實生活，並勇於從自然、文學、攝影及其個人經歷中汲取靈感。

 

多年來，她熱衷於現代愛爾蘭作家James Joyce、波斯詩人Rumi，和英美攝影師Eadweard Muybridge的作品。她曾於巴黎深造，並於瑞典和德國舉辦展覽。然而，她謂：「我沒有太多的遊歷經驗，我透過思想走過一趟又一趟的旅程。」她的總結：「我站在與自己同名的定點位置上，真實和藝術世界在我身邊不停移動和改變，同時我也經歷深化的過程，此乃獨特的雙循環觀點。」

 

Weil曾獲得無數榮譽，包括獲頒古根漢基金會獎學金及美國國家藝術基金會藝術獎。她的作品珍藏於紐約大都會藝術博物館、紐約現代藝術博物館、倫敦維多利亞與阿伯特博物館、洛杉磯保羅蓋蒂博物館、斯德哥爾摩國立美術館、赫爾辛基城市藝術博物館，及馬德里索非亞王后國家藝術中心。2010年，著名意大利藝術著作出版商Skira 出版了合共142頁的藝術專集Susan Weil, Moving Pictures，收錄其既大型又多樣化的作品，藝術家著作及詩詞。

 

2015年，Susan Weil的作品展出於第56屆威尼斯國際藝術雙年展官方延伸展覽《Frontiers Reimagined》。其他近期重點展覽包括2015年先後於波士頓當代藝術學院和洛杉磯漢莫爾美術館展出的Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College 1933-1957，此展覽現假哥倫布市俄亥俄州立大學衛克斯那藝術中心舉行，展期至2017年1月1日。此外，紐約州立大學水牛城分校近期舉辦了題為James Joyce: Shut Your Eyes and See的藝術家個展。

Susan Weil’s work is on view at Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle in Munich in “A Room of One’s Own,” an exhibition based on the narrative of the influential novel by Virginia Woolf. The show highlights women artists who approach their work in relation to science, history and literature, shaping the course of art history. Three of Weil’s works from the 1990s are on view alongside sculpture by Kiki Smith and photography by Candida Höfer. The exhibition runs through January 15, 2022.

Susan Weil’s work is on view in the exhibition Photography and the Surreal Imagination through June 14, 2020. The exhibition explores photography’s central tension between documentation and invention—a generative force for artists connected to historical Surrealism.

The Women of Black Mountain College—a show celebrating the work and impact of groundbreaking female artists. Her piece Musical Chairs, 1995, a vivid acrylic painting is among the highlights of the expansive survey.
