Press Release

Prabir Purkayastha has been traveling and extensively photographing Ladakh - a part of the Tibetan plateau situated at the northern tip of India - for the past 15 years and has held critically acclaimed, major solo exhibitions in New York, Katonah, London, New Delhi & Mumbai. His photographs of Ladakh have been exhibited by Fuji Films in Cologne, Germany, in group shows throughout India and have been published in the leading magazines and newspapers in India and abroad.

In April 2005, Prabir published his award winning book, Ladakh. The book, which took almost a decade to write, is a true documentation of Ladakh's people and landscape and is the result of months of travel by foot, jeep, truck and horseback through the region. Art critics and the Indian media have critically acclaimed Ladakh. Prabir has presented his work throughout California and has spoken about his wall mural photography of Ladakh at the Rubin Museum of Art, New York.
