Sundaram Tagore Gallery is proud to present an exhibition entitled Anil Revri: Quantum. A noted Indian-born and Washington, D.C.-based artist, Revri is a painter who creates contemplative images that allude to the spiritual. He is the first Indian artist to have a solo exhibition at a major American museum. Works from Cultural Crossings, a suite of Anil Revri paintings from 2000 exploring the similarities existing in Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, will be on view, along with other recent works. Anil Revri: Quantum will open at Sundaram Tagore Gallery in SoHo, New York City on April 14 and closes May 21, 2005.

Known for his geometric abstractions, Revri uses metallic paints, markers and pencils to create an illusion of a three-dimensional grid. The outcome is a dynamic window within a window format, where the palimpsest of layers appears to move in and out of each other. According to the artist, "Though abstract in their rendering, the work is inspired by Eastern philosophy. Each piece becomes a meditation." Furthermore, "There is no reference to narrative here, excepting that of an implied order beneath the restless surface. That surface tension acts as a metaphor for the clutter in our lives that prevents us from achieving that calm that we so desire."

Anil Revri was born in 1956 in New Delhi, India. He has had numerous solo and group shows in India, Europe and the United States. His work is featured in collections worldwide, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Library of Congress. Revri lives and works in Washington, D.C. Quantum is his second solo exhibition at Sundaram Tagore Gallery.

Sundaram Tagore Gallery is located at 547 West 27th Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues) in Chelsea, New York City. It is open daily from 11 am to 6 pm. About Sundaram Tagore Gallery

Established in 2000, Sundaram Tagore Gallery is devoted to examining the confluence of Western and non-Western cultures. The focus is on developing exhibitions of intellectual rigor and showcasing artists who are engaged in spiritual, social and aesthetic dialogues with traditions other than their own.

Our interest in cross-cultural dialogue extends beyond the visual arts into many other disciplines, including poetry, literature, performance art, film and music. We host non-profit events that stimulate the exchange of ideas and push the envelope of artistic, intellectual and cultural boundaries. Our focus is to help artists of all ages, and art organizations from around the globe to exhibit, perform and produce their work.
