This forty-page full color catalogue accompanies Day Falls/Night Falls, Hiroshi Senju’s Hong Kong exhibition of fluorescent waterfall paintings (April 2013). Hiroshi Senju, one of Japan’s most celebrated contemporary artists, uses fluorescent pigments to create towering columns of cascading water. The paintings appear black and white in daylight and glow an arresting electric blue under ultraviolet light. The catalogue includes photos of each painting under both lighting conditions.
An essay by Iain Robertson, head of Art Business Studies at Sotheby’s, explores Senju’s longstanding fascination with nature and the role of landscape in traditional Asian art. Robertson, who holds a PhD on the emerging art markets of Greater China, is the author of two books and more than one hundred newspaper and magazine articles for the arts and national press.
