安藤美夜 (Miya Ando) 是以纽约为中心的新兴艺术家,她是备前剑制造商的后裔,小时候在日本冈山县一座寺庙中成长,与佛教僧人剑匠一起生活。 安藤美夜拥有一半日本,一半俄美的血统,童年时于日本及加州度过,经历两种截然不同的文化与语言。她于加州大学伯克莱分校取得东亚研究的学士学位,并于美国耶鲁大学修读佛教意象及图象。大学毕业后,她到日本著名的铁匠Hattori 工作室当学徒,2009年到北加州公共艺术学院进行实习。

安藤美夜巧妙地结合祖先的传统技术与现代工业技术,灵巧地把光洁的不锈钢及电镀铝转换成短暂而泛着微妙色彩层次的抽象画。

安藤美夜以表层改造作设计基础,她通过以热能、砂纸、砂轮机、酸及铜绿在其金属画上所产生的不同化学反应,创作出反射光线的倾斜度。她每天如冥想的状态般重复这些技术,不断减少、还原,及提炼她的概念,以求达至最简单的形式。 安藤美夜刻意似是而非地将金属与思想精神的题材搭配,她说:「我的创作是探索金属的双重性,于传达力量与永恒的能力的同时,它们亦能吸收多重颜色的转移,及捕捉短暂的光线,提醒我们大自然生活中所有事物的无常。」

安藤美夜曾获颁多个奖项,包括2012年波洛克-克拉斯纳基金会的艺术资助。她的作品曾于世界各地展出,包括近期由Nat Trotman策展于纽约索罗门古根汉博物馆举行的展览。安藤美夜多次受委托为公共场所创作,当中最引人注目的是位于伦敦高达30英尺的雕塑,由世界贸易中心的钢材所建成,以纪念美国9.11事件十周年。
