Press Release

Please join us was we welcome world-renowned photographer Sebastião Salgado to the Chelsea gallery. We will be presenting an exhibition of monochromatic photographs from his landmark series Kuwait

Shot in 1991 as the Gulf War drew to a close, the images in this show, curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado, chronicle the raging oil well fires ignited by Saddam Hussein’s forces as they retreated from Kuwait. This epic series first appeared in The New York Times Magazine in 1991 and has since been hailed as one of Salgado’s most compelling—and courageous—bodies of work.
