Sundaram Tagore Gallery, 5 Lock Road 01–05, Gillman Barracks

Press Release

Please join Golnaz Fathi for an informal discussion of her practice and the works on canvas and paper on view in the gallery. Born in Tehran in 1972, she is one of the few women to excel at traditional calligraphy. In a meditative process, she spends up to twelve hours a day layering thousands of intricate lines using archival rollerball pen on paper or canvas. These quivering, hatched lines coalesce into minimalist compositions hovering within expanses of negative space, evoking mountains, crevasses and waterfalls.
